PE, oriented in one direction on purpose

PE-HB714 is a 25 µm machine-direction oriented PE film: stiff enough to carry print, clear enough to stay a window, and sold as a finished film that you print and then laminate. It is not a barrier grade — it is the PE layer a mono-material structure is built around.

What it is

Polyethylene stretched in the machine direction. Orientation is what gives the film its rigidity: the same polymer chemistry, a stiffer web in the direction the press and the laminator pull it.

MDO-PE is the film converters reach for when a structure has to stay polyethylene and still needs a print web that behaves. PE-HB714 is 25 µm, transparent, and printable; other colours can be made to order. It ships on 76 mm (3″) cores as standard, with 152 mm (6″) available.

The measurements on this page are the typical values from our technical data sheet, each with the method it was measured by. They are typical values, not a specification of the roll that ships; the lot data travels with the delivery.

Typical values

Measured on PE-HB714 at 25 µm. Barrier values are not quoted for this film: polyethylene is a poor oxygen and moisture barrier on its own, so the barrier of a structure comes from the layers it is combined with.

Typical values from the PE-HB714 technical data sheet. Tensile and elongation are given in the machine direction (MD) and across it (TD).

Where it fits

Printing, lamination and pouches — the three jobs in the technical data sheet. It is the print web of a polyethylene structure, not a barrier layer.

You print PE-HB714 and then laminate it. In a mono-material PE structure the other web is usually a barrier layer from our range: metallized PE where a silver barrier is enough, or high-barrier PE where the structure needs more. The PE chemistry stays the same across the structure; the print web supplies stiffness and a printable surface, the barrier web supplies the oxygen and moisture performance.

If the pack has to show the product, the film stays transparent; if it has to carry a printed design, the print runs on the outside of the same web. Both routes are quoted from the same 25 µm film.
